Assistant Store Manager

Position Overview

This role supports the day-to-day running of the store and helps deliver a smooth, positive experience for customers. The Assistant Store Manager works closely with the Store Manager, steps in when needed, and helps oversee operations, team performance, sales delivery, and service quality.

Sales and Customer Experience

• Keep customer needs front and center in every store interaction.
• Set and sustain a strong customer service culture across the store.
• Lead by example in service behavior and customer handling.
• Work actively toward achieving and surpassing store sales goals.
• Make sure the team understands KPIs and the targets they need to meet.
• Ensure promotional stock offers are properly executed in the store.
• Apply practical sales-driving methods to improve store performance.

Store Administration

• Regularly review store administrative processes and address any issues found.
• Adopt administrative updates in a smooth and effective way within the store.
• Work with the Store Manager to define and deliver sales targets.
• Track sales results and evaluate key performance indicators.
• Use sales plans to strengthen revenue and support business objectives.
• Manage stock control and merchandising to maintain product availability.
• Carry out frequent stock checks and make sure replenishment happens on time.
• Ensure store presentation and layout follow brand guidelines.

Presentation and Store Standards

• Maintain the right stock mix and inventory levels to support maximum sales.
• Make sure visual merchandising and general upkeep meet a high standard.
• Communicate any changes in stock or store layout clearly to the team.
• Ensure every team member follows retail standards consistently.
• Oversee back-of-store operations and merchandise replenishment.

Staffing and Team Performance

• Manage work schedules, including hours, vacations, and days off for sales staff.
• Handle team complaints and concerns, and provide regular performance feedback.
• Coach staff when needed and support corrective conversations where required.
• Encourage the team to take part in setting store goals and action plans.
• Ensure staff presentation reflects the company image and dress code.
• Track and manage staff leave records.

Security

• Ensure store security procedures are followed at all times.
• Maintain strong awareness around the protection of stock and cash.

Other Responsibilities

• Take corrective or disciplinary action when required.
• Be reliable, punctual, and dependable in all duties.
• Keep employee and employment-related information strictly confidential.
• Act with integrity and ethical judgment in all decisions.

Experience and Education

This role is suited to a retail professional with more than 3 years of progressive experience in a customer-focused environment, along with solid supervisory or management exposure. A track record of improving customer engagement and consistently meeting or exceeding sales KPI targets is important. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, retail management, or a related discipline is preferred.
