Role overview
The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager across assigned construction jobs, guiding them from turnover through final closeout. The position is responsible for helping keep work safe, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with the company’s quality expectations. This role suits someone who is highly organized, detail-focused, driven by results, and comfortable coordinating both field and office teams to improve project outcomes and client satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
- Support project setup through closeout, including buyout activities, submittals, documentation, and financial control.
- Review contracts, prepare and issue purchase orders, process change orders, and route invoices for payment.
- Assist with project budgeting across labor, materials, and equipment.
- Track job progress, percentage completion, and performance against schedule and cost targets.
- Prepare the schedule of values and monthly billing packages.
- Help price and process project changes.
- Coordinate daily work with general contractors, field crews, and suppliers.
- Develop and oversee material stocking and handling plans.
- Create and maintain manpower loading schedules to match contract milestones.
- Carry out weekly site walks to confirm progress and project status.
- Work with superintendents and foremen to improve jobsite productivity.
- Make sure assigned projects meet safety standards and contract obligations.
- Participate in project meetings with internal stakeholders and general contractors.
- Build and sustain strong customer relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Background in construction, with experience in drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, and exterior cladding.
- OSHA 30-hour certification completed or currently in progress.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
- Working knowledge of architectural design concepts and building components.
- Strong planning, budgeting, and organizational abilities.
- Accountable, results-driven work style.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with field leadership and office-based teams.
- Strong problem-solving ability and comfort handling multiple priorities in a busy environment.
