Role overview
This position is focused on overseeing plant operation and maintenance activities across boiler, turbine, generator, balance of plant, switchyard, and transformer areas to keep systems running at peak efficiency. The role also involves executing safe start-up and shutdown sequences, managing FGD operations, supporting energy savings, and ensuring compliance with environmental and operational standards.
Core responsibilities
The position functions as a Control Room Engineer / Lead Desk Engineer / Lead FGD / Switchyard Engineer, depending on operational requirements.
- Track the performance of boiler, turbine, generator, balance of plant, and electrical systems to maintain reliable operation.
- Carry out plant start-up and shutdown activities when required.
- Continuously review operating parameters and act quickly when deviations appear.
- Conduct routine equipment changeovers and carry out emergency drive trials as needed.
- Respond to plant emergencies involving the boiler-turbine-generator package and coordinate the corrective response.
- Handle switchyard and grid-related emergencies to reduce disruption to plant operations.
- Ensure equipment is safely isolated and normalized for planned or emergency operational needs.
- Operate and monitor the Flue Gas Desulfurization system and its key parameters.
- Keep plant logbooks complete, accurate, and current.
- Drive energy conservation efforts with attention to specific oil consumption, auxiliary power consumption, demineralized water usage, and heat rate.
- Monitor important chemistry parameters to support environmental compliance and efficient plant performance.
- Oversee FGD operations to help reduce emissions and meet regulatory requirements.
- Follow IMS, AWMS, DISHA, and CHETNA guidelines within the department.
- Protect people and equipment by following safety procedures and ensuring proper training.
- Comply with Permit to Work requirements and standard operating procedures.
- Report defects and operational issues to the shift in charge without delay.
- Support digitization initiatives intended to improve operational efficiency.
- Contribute to automation efforts that align with business goals and strategy.
- Recommend and implement process improvements using newer technologies and practical innovations.
Requirements
- BE or B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institute.
- At least 3 years of experience in power plant operations, specifically in thermal power plant environments.
- Prior exposure to power generation operations is preferred.
Stakeholders
Internal stakeholders include Maintenance Engineers. There are no external stakeholders specified.
