Job Purpose
The Firefighter in the ARFF function is expected to respond to aircraft-related emergencies, building fires, medical incidents, hazardous material situations, and other emergencies across airport premises. The role is centered on protecting passengers, crew, airport staff, and property through firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency medical assistance.
Core Responsibilities
In this role, the incumbent will be expected to act quickly during emergency situations, carry out firefighting and rescue tasks, support first response medical care, and help ensure the airport remains operationally prepared at all times.
- Respond without delay to aircraft incidents, structural fires, medical emergencies, hazardous material events, and other urgent situations on airport property.
- Carry out firefighting, rescue work, and emergency medical assistance to protect people and assets.
- Suppress fires using suitable methods and agents such as water, foam, dry chemicals, and other firefighting media.
- Perform search-and-rescue activities in smoky, dangerous, or otherwise difficult environments.
- Provide first aid and basic life support until specialized medical responders arrive.
- Support the movement of injured or unwell individuals to medical facilities when required.
- Complete daily checks and upkeep of fire vehicles, extinguishers, and personal protective equipment.
- Track firefighting stock and equipment availability to ensure readiness for deployment.
- Take part in emergency drills, ICAO-required training, and routine fire-response simulations.
- Maintain accurate incident logs, training records, and shift notes for audit and compliance purposes.
- Follow all applicable local, state, and national firefighting and emergency-response regulations, along with standard operating procedures.
- Identify risks during patrols and inspections and take immediate corrective steps where needed.
- Prepare and submit incident reports, equipment records, and other required documentation with accuracy.
- Work closely with airport operations, medical teams, and outside emergency agencies during incidents and drills.
- Coordinate with the Duty Manager, ATC, and other airport authorities during emergency situations and planned exercises.
Stakeholder Coordination
The role involves regular interaction with internal teams such as the Duty Manager - ARFF, Airport Operations, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF crew members, Engineering & Maintenance, and the HSE team. External coordination is also required with the local fire department, airlines, ground handling companies, ARFF equipment vendors and service providers, insurance companies, community leaders, and civil aviation authorities.
Qualification and Experience
Candidates should hold a Diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or an equivalent qualification. A certification from an accredited firefighting academy is mandatory. The preferred experience profile is 2 to 3 years of firefighting experience, ideally in aircraft rescue and fire fighting operations.
