Role overview
This is a training-track position in a long-term care setting, designed to help the Administrator-in-Training understand the responsibilities of running a facility. All core duties are carried out under the close supervision of a licensed precepting administrator.
Key duties
- Support analysis of day-to-day operations within the nursing facility.
- Serve as a connection point between the facility, residents, families, and the wider community.
- Prepare reporting related to budget forecasts, income, and expenses.
- Model the organization’s mission, vision, and values by ensuring residents, families, and team members are treated respectfully.
- Build and maintain relationships with local hospitals, physicians, and community organizations.
- Track regulatory updates, legal requirements, and compliance changes, then help implement needed adjustments.
- Set aside time to study federal and state regulations and develop a strong understanding of industry best practices.
- Learn staffing requirements and ensure alignment with company and industry expectations.
- Help monitor and implement policy and procedure updates.
- Contribute to HR-related matters and risk management issues in the facility.
- Support capital improvement initiatives.
- Take part in advisory committees.
- Assist with safety-related programs and initiatives.
- Help maintain a strong professional reputation in the facility and surrounding community.
- Work closely with support departments such as HR, therapy, clinical, and finance to help meet or exceed operational goals.
- Assist with vendor contract discussions under the preceptor’s direction.
- Support clinical quality efforts by understanding QA measures and encouraging accountability.
- Review collections and accounts receivable on a daily basis.
- Contribute ideas to improve employee engagement and reduce turnover.
Supervision and leadership
This role may involve assisting with the oversight of multiple employee levels, either directly or indirectly. Responsibilities can include hiring, onboarding and training, performance review, recognition, discipline, handling complaints, resolving workplace issues, and managing terminations.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required, with Healthcare Administration or Business preferred. A master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
Communication and analytical skills
The position requires the ability to read and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. It also calls for writing reports, business correspondence, and procedures, along with presenting information clearly and answering questions from managers and employees.
Candidates should be comfortable applying arithmetic concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to real situations. Strong problem-solving ability is also needed, especially in settings with limited standardization and varied instructions delivered in written, verbal, diagrammatic, or schedule-based form.
Technical skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite products is required for success in this role.
