Overview
Deloitte is hiring a Workday Payroll Consultant for a permanent full-time role. This position is tied to the Toronto, Ontario office, with hybrid work as the stated work model. The role may also be based from one of several Canadian locations, including Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and may involve occasional travel to client sites depending on project requirements.
The work centers on supporting payroll transformation as part of broader Workday HCM programs. You will join a multidisciplinary team spanning HCM, time tracking, absence, benefits, integrations, and data conversion to help design and deliver payroll solutions that are scalable and aligned with client goals.
What you will do
- Work directly with payroll, HR, and finance stakeholders to gather business needs, understand legislation, and map current operational processes.
- Run collaborative design sessions and configure Workday Payroll so that the setup supports business goals and established best practices.
- Coordinate with related teams to make sure payroll works smoothly with time, absence, benefits, and downstream finance systems.
- Spot risks, issues, and dependencies early, then partner with the project manager to raise them and help resolve them without disrupting timelines.
- Contribute in a fast-moving environment where you may be switching between configuration, client advisory, troubleshooting, and strategic design work.
About the team
Deloitte’s Canadian Human Resources Transformation practice is a large and expanding group with more than 340 consultants across the country. The practice is part of a global network of more than 2,500 HCM consultants and is known for its HR transformation work. The team places strong emphasis on training, certifications, mentoring, and practical development across HR-related specialties.
What you bring
- At least 3 years of practical Canadian payroll experience, including payroll data handling, reconciliation, and compliance work.
- Good working knowledge of HR, payroll, and benefits data structures, along with how those processes affect upstream and downstream systems.
- A Canadian Payroll Association designation such as PCP or CPM, or active progress toward one of these certifications.
- Prior exposure to Workday Payroll or a similar cloud payroll platform is an asset.
- Strong familiarity with provincial and federal payroll legislation, including statutory reporting and compliance obligations.
- Ability to examine complex payroll scenarios and turn them into accurate system configurations and process improvements.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability, especially in a client-facing setting where issues must be assessed and resolved quickly.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent organization and the ability to manage several priorities and deliverables in a project-based environment.
- High attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Additional requirements
For roles based in Quebec, bilingual ability in French and English is required because the work involves interaction with national and global clients and project teams.
