Role overview
Ventia is hiring an experienced Wireless Technician / Mobile Rigger to support telecommunications infrastructure across the Lower North Island. This is a practical field-based position centred on tower rigging, site upgrades, installations, and maintenance of mobile network assets.
What you will do
In this role, you will work at height on mobile cell towers to complete network upgrades, installations, and fault repair work. You will be part of a team responsible for keeping New Zealand’s telecommunications infrastructure reliable and continuously improving.
- Climb towers and poles to carry out rigging work on telecom sites
- Install, upgrade, and maintain mobile cell tower equipment and structures
- Work with telecommunications hardware from Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei
- Complete connections and installation tasks while working at height
- Support tower upgrades, structural installations, and new site builds
- Carry out fault diagnosis and maintenance activities
- Use cranes, rigging tools, and mobile plant equipment safely
- Read basic RF diagrams and technical drawings
- Work as part of a collaborative team across multiple locations
Site coverage
The role covers the wider Lower North Island, including Wellington, Paraparaumu, Levin, Waikanae, Palmerston North, and Feilding.
About you
Ventia is looking for candidates with solid rigging and climbing experience in the telecommunications environment. You should be confident working at height and comfortable taking a hands-on approach to field work.
What you need to bring
- Demonstrated background in telecommunications rigging or mobile tower work
- Confidence climbing structures and working safely at height
- Familiarity with Nokia, Ericsson, or Huawei systems
- Experience using cranes, rigging systems, and mobile plant
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- Basic understanding of RF concepts and diagrams
- Good mechanical aptitude and practical skills
- A safety-focused approach and the ability to work well with others
Additional information
Experience with fibre splicing is not required for this position.
