What the role involves
The Waste Management Officer will help deliver operational support for waste management and resource recovery services. The role combines site-based activity with administrative responsibilities and requires practical judgment, service focus and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
About you
The ideal candidate is organised, proactive and confident in working with customers, contractors and team members. You should be comfortable balancing multiple priorities, solving practical issues and maintaining a strong focus on service quality, compliance and safe operations.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with day-to-day waste management and resource recovery operations, including monitoring activities, carrying out site inspections and ensuring services are delivered safely and in line with requirements.
- Deal with customer enquiries, service requests and complaints, working with customers, contractors and other stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes.
- Check compliance with approvals, legislation and site management plans, including follow-up investigations and responses to illegal dumping issues.
- Review operational information and prepare reports that support performance tracking, identify opportunities for improvement and strengthen Waste Team services.
Essential experience and skills
- Background in waste management, environmental services, compliance or another operational setting with similar responsibilities.
- Ability to complete site inspections, recognise operational or compliance concerns and keep accurate records according to procedures.
- Strong customer service capability, including dealing with enquiries, investigating requests and resolving complaints professionally.
- Experience gathering, analysing and reporting operational data for performance monitoring and service improvement.
- Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to handle competing demands, work independently and contribute effectively to a team environment.
Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV, or equivalent vocational training, in waste management, environmental operations, compliance, local government, business administration or a related field.
- Current C Class Driver Licence.
