Role overview
Northpower is seeking a Trainee Cable Jointer in Auckland to join the field team supporting the installation, replacement, and repair of underground electricity distribution infrastructure. This is a practical, outdoor role that combines hands-on work with structured training, mentoring, and development opportunities to build the skills needed to become a qualified Cable Jointer.
Core duties
- Support the installation, replacement, and repair of underground distribution cables
- Carry out excavation and reinstatement work for underground cable installation sites
- Complete block courses and required unit standards within the expected timeframes, and successfully pass them
- Help ensure field paperwork, reports, and asset records are completed accurately and on time
- Contribute to meeting customer, company, and regulatory performance requirements
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, teammates, and other relevant stakeholders
- Represent the business professionally and help create a positive customer experience
- Identify ways to improve work methods, safety practices, and personal capability
- Look after company tools, equipment, and PPE
- Consistently follow health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures
- Carry out other reasonable tasks as needed
Health, safety, and environment
Safety is central to this position. You must be prepared to work carefully at all times, halt unsafe work when necessary, follow applicable codes, industry standards, and company procedures, report hazards and incidents promptly, and take responsibility for environmental protection and compliance.
What you should bring
The ideal candidate will have a strong safety mindset, a willingness to learn, and a team-oriented approach. You should be physically capable of manual outdoor work and able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken form. A Class 1 New Zealand driver licence is required.
Preferred background
While not essential, a Class 2 licence, experience working at heights, or prior exposure to construction, utilities, or trade environments would be an advantage.
