Role overview
Jacobs is looking for a Risk Manager to join its risk function in Cork and contribute to major built environment and infrastructure programmes across Ireland. In this position, you will help shape the risk approach on large, complex schemes and influence outcomes through structured analysis, governance, and stakeholder support.
The role sits within a collaborative, high-performing team that includes both early-career and highly experienced risk professionals. You will work alongside senior leaders and be supported in your ongoing development.
What you will do
- Act as a strategic lead for building, updating, and sustaining risk and opportunity management frameworks, while creating practical approaches that support project goals and wider portfolio success.
- Drive both qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, set strong practice standards, and put in place risk procedures across all delivery stages. Direct experience with QCRA and QSRA is required.
- Be the main point of contact for risk and opportunity matters, offering guidance, championing effective practices, and helping teams implement mitigation actions.
- Support stakeholders through analysis sessions, workshops, and formal reviews so that risks and opportunities are identified early, assessed properly, reduced where possible, and tracked over time.
- Build reliable reporting and communication processes for projects and the wider organisation to keep risk information clear, visible, and accountable.
- Design and deliver training and engagement initiatives that strengthen risk awareness and help embed a strong risk culture across the business.
- Contribute to project reviews, senior leadership reporting, and resource planning, while helping connect activities across multiple major programmes.
Experience that will help you succeed
Relevant background in the following sectors would be particularly useful: Highways & Transport, Energy & Power, Water & Environment, and Major Capital Programmes.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience managing project and programme risk and opportunity in construction, infrastructure, or the built environment.
- A recognised risk qualification such as IRM Diploma, PMI RMP, MoR Practitioner, APM Risk Practitioner, or an equivalent credential.
- Practical experience carrying out QCRA and QSRA.
- Strong communication ability, with a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
- Willingness to travel and occasionally remain away overnight when needed.
- Hands-on use of risk tools such as Safran, Oracle PRA, @Risk, ARM, Predict, Risk Hive, or similar platforms.
- Proven ability to design and embed risk frameworks, governance structures, and reporting processes.
- Confidence influencing and engaging stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
- An analytical degree in Engineering, Project Management, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
Preferred background
- Additional project management credentials such as PMP, AMPPMQ, or PRINCE2.
- Working knowledge of ISO 31000, COSO ERM, and APM PRAM.
- Membership of IRM, APM, PMI, or a similar professional body.
- Experience with NEC contracts, PMO settings, or major project controls.
Important suitability note
This opportunity is not intended for candidates whose background is limited to financial, commercial, IT, digital, or legal risk. The employer is specifically seeking practical project risk experience within infrastructure and the built environment.
