About the Role
RIOS is an international design collective focused on shaping the built environment through architecture, placemaking, landscape architecture, and experience design. The studio approaches design as a connected continuum and aims to create thoughtful, resilient, and meaningful outcomes through collaboration across disciplines.
The team’s process starts with careful reading of program and context to develop a clear conceptual direction. From there, the work expands into form-making, functional planning, experience design, and the exploration of ecology, materiality, sustainability, and tectonic expression. The practice is recognized for inventive solutions that respond to the broader context.
The Landscape Project Designer will take a lead role in project design and delivery, working with a high level of autonomy, ownership, and technical capability. This person will help drive daily coordination, manage workflows, and ensure strong design quality throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and technical work on assigned projects with limited supervision while staying accountable for results.
- Oversee design and delivery activities from concept through execution.
- Support project teams across design development, documentation, visualization, sustainability integration, and technical production.
- Organize daily workflow, team communication, and task tracking to keep projects moving efficiently.
- Contribute to proposals, RFP responses, design narratives, and presentation materials for new business efforts.
- Help define and advance sustainability and performance objectives for projects.
- Work with senior leadership to coordinate consultants and support client communication.
- Maintain a strong grasp of project delivery methods, documentation standards, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Requirements
- Strong design leadership with the ability to turn conceptual ideas into effective project outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage responsibilities independently while working well in collaborative teams.
- Excellent organization, coordination, and project management skills.
- Solid technical understanding of project delivery, documentation, and construction processes.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, visual, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- A clear commitment to sustainability, innovation, and responsible design.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in architecture or a related project delivery role.
- Prior success serving as a Job Captain on small projects.
- Experience managing project coordination, workflows, and internal team communication.
- Comfort communicating with clients and consultants in support of delivery goals.
- Proficiency with Rhino, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Lumion, Grasshopper, and Dynamo.
- Strong knowledge of BIM workflows and digital project coordination.
- Experience mentoring junior team members and supporting interdisciplinary collaboration.
Work Model
This is a hybrid role. All positions at RIOS follow a hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office.
