Role Overview

The Night Porter is responsible for keeping the property safe, secure, and running smoothly throughout the night. This role provides porter support, a visible security presence, and practical help to staff, clients, and visitors while daytime teams are off duty. The post reports to the Operations Manager in Ushers Island.

Working Pattern and Environment

  • Night duty on a rotating roster, typically from 21:30 to 07:30, including weekends.
  • Based in a busy clinical environment where client needs can change quickly and emergency situations may arise.
  • Strict compliance with Health & Safety rules and infection control procedures is required.

Key Duties

  • Keep the building secure by watching entrances, exits, and CCTV systems.
  • Respond quickly to alarms and emergencies, support evacuations, and ensure corridors and emergency exits remain unobstructed.
  • Complete routine patrols and safety checks, recording and escalating any concerns.
  • Help clients with late-night questions or requests and offer calm reassurance when needed.
  • Carry out light cleaning and tidying in shared spaces such as corridors, offices, and waiting areas; empty bins and assist with laundry tasks where required.
  • Record patrols and incidents, and keep on-call teams and shift staff informed through clear handover communication.
  • Use basic technology and security tools such as incident reporting systems, CCTV, pagers, walkie-talkies, panic alarms, refuge audio systems, intercoms, and similar devices.
  • Prepare rooms and areas for the following day by setting up or clearing meeting and clinical spaces used overnight.
  • Handle urgent situations in a composed way and follow established procedures at all times.
  • Answer incoming phone calls.
  • Complete night reports and pass relevant information to the morning team.
  • Report faults or failures to the Operations Manager.
  • Support the Operations team with additional duties as needed.
