Mechanical Estimator

Role overview

Glanua is looking for an experienced and detail-focused Mechanical Estimator for its Navan, Co. Meath location. The successful candidate will prepare accurate, well-analysed pricing for mechanical engineering works and make sure proposals are technically sound and carry an appropriate level of commercial risk.

This position sits at the centre of the tender process and involves close coordination with design, project management, and procurement teams. The aim is to shape practical, cost-effective, and innovative solutions that align with client requirements.

The role also includes assessing whether designs can be built efficiently, choosing suitable materials, identifying improvements, and supplying early pricing input for tender optioneering and budgeting. A strong understanding of mechanical engineering, current industry practices, and new technologies is important.

In addition, the estimator must ensure that risk and governance steps are properly followed, recorded, and authorised. The position supports tender planning, staffing schedules, and procurement planning while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and the ability to work to demanding deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates for mechanical works from outline drawings and specifications.
• Make sure estimates include a sensible allowance for risk and comply with internal and industry requirements.
• Contribute to design development by checking buildability, materials, innovation opportunities, and overall cost efficiency.
• Provide early-stage price input to support tender optioneering and budget preparation.
• Follow and document all risk management and governance procedures, including approvals.
• Help develop tender preparation and tender construction programmes.
• Work with other teams to create staffing schedules for tenders, using lessons from successful projects.
• Coordinate with central and regional buyers on procurement planning, including supplier and subcontractor selection, negotiation of terms, conditions, and discount levels.
• Issue enquiries and obtain competitive quotations for materials and subcontracted mechanical resources.
• Stay current with technical developments and emerging methods in mechanical engineering.
• Use industry knowledge to improve estimate accuracy and competitiveness.
• Create financial models for framework submissions, including appropriate staff rates aligned to budgets.
• Apply the standard cost coding system to support feedback, future cost capture, and consistent financial tracking.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, ideally in water, wastewater, or construction environments.
• A solid history of preparing precise mechanical cost estimates.
• Strong numerical and analytical ability with excellent attention to detail.
• Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and construction techniques.
• Confident use of estimating software and Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well across teams.
• Ability to manage several priorities at once and deliver under tight timelines.
