Role overview

The Manager, Community Relations is charged with overseeing a wide range of community impact initiatives that deepen the organization’s ties to the greater Los Angeles area while also advancing brand and business goals. This position owns the full lifecycle of community programs and special projects, from early concepting through execution and post-program review, while building strong relationships with nonprofits, schools, civic leaders, corporate partners, league contacts, and other community stakeholders.

As a visible representative of the organization, this role helps create memorable community experiences, looks for new ways to broaden impact and partnerships, and uses basketball as a platform to connect with youth and local communities. The right candidate is highly organized, strategic, relationship-driven, and comfortable managing several priorities independently in a fast-paced setting.

Reporting and collaboration

This position reports to the Associate Director, Community Relations and works closely with marketing, communications, game operations, facilities, human resources, legal, and both internal and external partners.

Performance measures

  • Meet annual goals for participation, engagement, and program impact.
  • Grow the depth and quality of community partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
  • Maintain strong satisfaction among participants, partners, sponsors, and internal teams.
  • Complete sponsor, foundation, and organizational commitments on time and accurately.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and operational resources effectively.
  • Produce accurate reporting, summaries, and impact measurement.
  • Prioritize and scope community initiatives in a way that maximizes resources and community benefit.
  • Collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Identify fresh programming ideas, process improvements, and new community engagement approaches.

Core responsibilities

  • Plan, run, and assess community impact programs, signature initiatives, and philanthropic projects.
  • Create inventive programming that uses basketball to expand opportunity for young people, support communities, and increase organizational impact.
  • Manage yearly program calendars and coordinate several parallel initiatives at the same time.
  • Oversee each program from idea generation through budgeting, logistics, delivery, and post-event evaluation.
  • Ensure participants, partners, and guests receive a high-quality experience at every stage.
  • Review programs to confirm they are appropriately scaled, meaningful, and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Handle participant registration, communications, event logistics, and operational planning.
  • Maintain program budgets, inventories, timelines, and related resources.
  • Coordinate across internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth execution.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with nonprofits, schools, government agencies, community leaders, league partners, and corporate stakeholders.
  • Track participation data and impact metrics for programs.
  • Assist with sponsor, foundation, grant, and organizational reporting needs.
  • Work with internal departments to execute, celebrate, and tell the story of community initiatives.
  • Support, train, and guide coordinators, interns, part-time staff, and event personnel in day-to-day work.
  • Contribute to planning, process refinement, and strategic department initiatives.
  • Represent the organization professionally at community events, meetings, partner activations, and public appearances.
  • Uphold professionalism, integrity, collaboration, and excellent service in every interaction.
  • Adapt to changing organizational needs and management direction as required.

Working conditions

Work is primarily based in El Segundo during standard weekday office hours, with some duties in downtown Los Angeles for selected home games and at occasional off-site community events. The role requires availability in the evenings, on weekends, and on holidays when events or community programming take place.

Travel is limited to less than 5% of the time. The job also involves physical activity, including lifting up to 25 lbs. and significant walking during community events.

Pay and employment notes

The stated compensation range is $75,000 to $80,000 per year. Final pay will depend on factors such as skills, experience, certifications, and internal pay comparisons for similar roles.
