About the company
Uber is an organisation that values different perspectives and encourages people to contribute as unique individuals. It promotes an open environment where team members are invited to share their views and help strengthen the business.
About the team
The communications team decides the key topics Uber should address across APAC and chooses the most effective channels for those conversations. This includes media interviews, social content, industry events and internal communications. The team works on major themes such as the future of mobility and delivery, sustainability, and work, and it also helps resolve issues when they arise. Working as One Uber, the team connects with all areas of the business to build a strong, unified story.
About the role
This is a senior communications position based in Sydney and reporting to the Director of Communications for ANZ. The role focuses on helping shape public opinion in Australia and New Zealand around technology, mobility, delivery, flexible work and the future of cities. It sits in a fast-paced press office environment where the person in the role will lead proactive storytelling while also handling emerging issues with confidence.
The successful candidate will work across Mobility and Delivery teams, collaborating with different functions to strengthen Uber's brand, protect its reputation and deliver locally relevant stories.
Key responsibilities
- Lead Uber's media presence across Australia and New Zealand, covering ridesharing, delivery and the future of flexible work.
- Create and implement strategic storylines and integrated communications initiatives.
- Manage proactive media outreach while also responding to issues and crisis situations.
- Serve as a senior spokesperson and media point of contact in demanding, high-stakes settings.
- Work closely with global and regional communications teams to keep messaging aligned and reputation risks controlled.
- Produce high-quality written content across a range of formats, including media statements, opinion articles, speeches and executive communications.
- Oversee external agencies and coordinate with stakeholders across functions.
What we're looking for
This role suits someone who can move quickly, make sound decisions and operate comfortably when situations are unclear or evolving. It calls for a strategic thinker who is also highly hands-on and capable of building campaigns from the ground up.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience in communications, media, government or a closely related area.
- Strong background in press office work, including issues handling and crisis response.
- Solid knowledge of the Australian media environment and established relationships with journalists.
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills, along with strong verbal reasoning ability.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Ability to turn complex topics into clear, credible and engaging narratives.
- Comfort working in environments that are high-pressure and highly visible.
- Ministerial or government experience is considered an advantage.
- Strong fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Additional information
The role requires flexibility, strong judgement and the ability to work effectively in ambiguity. It is intended for someone who can manage complexity calmly, build campaigns independently and help reshape how Uber is represented across ANZ.
