About the Role
Khalifa University is seeking a Library Information Specialist to support the library’s day-to-day services, systems, and user-facing activities. This role works closely with academic partners to strengthen library resources, manage digital access tools, and help students and staff make effective use of both print and electronic materials. The position also involves keeping the library team informed about new technologies, supporting repositories and multimedia services, and contributing to a high-quality academic library experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with academic stakeholders to run library services and shape facilities and resources around student needs.
- Handle routine library operations such as serials, reference support, special collections, e-publications, collection development, and information services.
- Stay updated on library technology and related innovations to ensure systems remain current.
- Track the full lifecycle of electronic resources, including trial access, registration, authentication, user support, and removal when subscriptions end.
- Support information literacy programs, training sessions, and electronic research instruction for both new and experienced users.
- Help maintain and revise policies and procedures for the assigned functional area.
- Carry out acquisitions, cataloguing, bibliographic updates, sorting and delivery of materials, data entry, and general public service duties.
- Assist users in locating and using library materials, audiovisual tools, computers, and digital resources.
- Create tools and assessment frameworks to evaluate services, user needs, and technology requirements, then act on the findings.
- Keep building expertise in current and emerging library technologies and train patrons in their use.
- Support access to downloadable content such as eBooks and audiobooks.
- Review subscription and licensing conditions for databases and periodicals.
- Apply and communicate service and operational policies, solve complex departmental issues, and improve operating procedures.
- Support collection maintenance work across both print and digital holdings.
- Work with acquisitions and selection teams to identify materials, prepare orders, and choose vendors based on cost and available discounts.
- Load orders into library systems, monitor receipt of materials, and process invoices for payment.
- Manage the interlibrary loan function, including coordination with other libraries and training/supervision of backup support staff.
- Follow university information security and confidentiality rules, and report any breaches or risks.
- Coordinate with other departments when needed to complete assigned work.
- Maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and a healthy work environment.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, or a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong adaptability, initiative, willingness to take on additional responsibilities, and solid teamwork and relationship-building abilities.

This position is based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and is a full-time, on-site role.
