Laundry Aide HCC

Job summary

This role supports the care environment by washing, drying, sorting, folding, and distributing laundry for patients and residents. The position handles linens, personal clothing, and related textile items using established cleaning procedures and equipment cycles.

Core duties

• Operate laundry machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and patients’ personal belongings.
• Load washers with items and add the correct amount of detergent or other cleaning products.
• Move wet laundry from washers to wringers and dryers, following the required time settings for each cycle.
• Separate dried items by identification number or item type, then fold and store them in the correct bins.
• Sort and fold laundry such as sheets, blankets, towels, and residents’ clothing.
• Hang clothing on racks based on the assigned names and numbers.
• Deliver cleaned laundry to the appropriate patient or resident areas.
• Make sure clothing is returned wearable, intact, and placed properly.
• Use soaps and bleaches correctly and understand what each product is for.
• Follow MSDS instructions and all safety precautions for chemicals in use.
• Wash and dry clothes and linens as required.
• Keep all equipment clean and follow the established cleaning timetable.
• Maintain a tidy, orderly work area by sweeping and mopping the laundry room.
• Report repair needs to maintenance when equipment or facilities need attention.
• Run large filters according to the set schedule.
• Handle soiled laundry carefully and according to procedure.
• Clean and disinfect linen carts as required by policy.
• Empty washers and dryers when needed or when requested.
• Operate water, gas, and electrical shutoff switches and valves.
• Carry out stain removal using the correct process.

Education and experience

A high school diploma is preferred. No prior experience is required because on-the-job training is provided.

Preferred background

Experience with laundry processes in a healthcare setting is an added advantage.
