Janitor - Afternoon Shift

Role Overview

As a Full-Time Cleaner supporting transit stations, you will be responsible for keeping public spaces clean, safe, and pleasant for commuters. This is a permanent full-time position with five shifts each week, scheduled according to operational needs.

Pay rate: $20.15 per hour, in line with the collective agreement

Hours: 40 hours per week before breaks

Shift pattern: Five shifts weekly

Shift timing: Afternoon, 2:30 PM to 10:30 PM

Open positions: 6

Key Duties

• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in station spaces such as entrances, concourses, platforms, and washrooms.
• Carry out sweeping, mopping, spot cleaning, and sanitation of high-touch points like doors, railings, elevators, fare gates, and ticket vending machines.
• Refill washroom consumables, including toilet tissue, paper towels, and hand soap, while completing required inspections and checks.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as auto-scrubbers and auto-sweepers when needed.
• Complete assigned work orders in order of priority and report progress to quality assurance.
• Escalate concerns such as graffiti, damage, hazards, or cleanliness problems, and remove them only after supervisor approval.
• Carry out periodic deep-cleaning work, including machine scrubbing floors and detailed surface cleaning, when assigned.
• Collect garbage, replace liners, and pick up litter inside and outside the facility.

Requirements

• Positive attitude with strong attention to detail.
• Strong English communication skills in reading, writing, and speaking; this is mandatory.
• Previous janitorial or cleaning experience is helpful, with at least 6 months preferred.
• Floor care experience, including machine scrubbing and detailing, is considered an advantage.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods in a public-facing setting.
• Comfort using cleaning products and equipment safely.
• Professional communication skills for dealing with supervisors, clients, and members of the public.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and handle physical work such as bending and pushing or pulling equipment.
• Clear criminal background check required.

The role will be offered based on skill, ability, and seniority for internal employees. The schedule may change depending on operational requirements and in accordance with the collective agreement.
