About the Role
Dunne Kozlowski is looking for an experienced interior designer to join its expanding team. In this position, you will shape the overall design direction for projects, working closely with an architect and contributing in a collaborative studio environment. The role calls for someone who can assign work across the project team, keep timelines moving, and help ensure strong project outcomes from concept through completion. This position reports to the Managing Director.
The ideal candidate is organized, self-directed, highly motivated, eager to keep learning, and confident solving problems while delivering work with responsibility and initiative.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with architects to develop and present design concepts.
- Produce interior design documentation such as plans, elevations, sections, and detail drawings.
- Support the selection and specification of furniture, fixtures, equipment, and finishes.
- Build and maintain a library of material and resource references.
- Stay in regular contact with clients, contractors, and vendors to keep projects running smoothly.
- Help coordinate construction document sets, including architectural, electrical, mechanical, and specialty drawings.
- Provide ongoing design support and project documentation through design development and execution.
- Track design progress and construction activity to help maintain quality standards.
- Take an active role in team meetings and design reviews.
- Work within project schedules, budgets, and relevant building code requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in interior design, architecture, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of professional interior design experience, ideally in a multidisciplinary firm.
- Strong background in concept development and seeing projects through from start to finish is highly preferred.
- Experience working on restaurant and hospitality projects is preferred.
- Prior professional use of Revit is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other relevant design tools.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and QuickBooks.
- Ability to work with 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and design development tools.
- Understanding of space planning, material choices, color palettes, and specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-focused, and capable of solving problems effectively.
- Strong awareness of current design trends, materials, and color theory.
- Proven ability to contribute positively in a team setting.
- Willingness to travel when needed for project and client meetings.
Work Schedule and Location
This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The team works remotely on Mondays and Fridays, while Tuesdays through Thursdays are spent in the studio at Division and Kedzie.
