Innovation Lead

Role Overview

This position focuses on expanding Bechtel’s digital capability and innovation maturity on the project, while strengthening a culture of transformation. The role involves developing, testing, and rolling out solutions across engineering, procurement, project controls, construction, and commissioning. It also includes creating execution plans, training plans, and upskilling requirements tied to both physical and digital solutions.

Project Context

Jubail is a landmark project in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and has been managed by Bechtel since the mid-1970s. Through Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company, the business serves as the management services contractor and owner’s representative for the Royal Commission. The project covers engineering, procurement, and construction management work for design submissions and construction delivered by local firms and contractors across Jubail and Ras Al-Khair Industrial Cities. Current work includes residential communities, landmark buildings and bridges, major site preparation, commercial buildings, mosques, schools, hospitals, sports facilities, clinics, universities, utilities, road networks, port and pipeline expansion, and more.

Key Duties

• Run workshops with clients, partners, and stakeholders to shape innovation use cases, roadmaps, and implementation plans.
• Lead an innovation change control board to identify valuable ideas, plan implementation, manage change, and embed new ways of working.
• Improve tender documents by adding contract wording that supports adoption of targeted innovations through digital workflows or engineering/procurement specifications and flow-down requirements.
• Partner with project teams to build a scoring framework that evaluates delivery teams’ ability to upskill for innovation and technology adoption during bid evaluation and award.
• Create training plans for introducing new technologies.
• Work with Functional Innovation and Information Management teams to apply standards, use best practices and lessons learned, and share project materials, insights, and feedback.
• Design and launch project dashboards to monitor innovation use cases and related workflows such as design and construction management.
• Set up communication, stakeholder engagement, mobilization, deployment, and success-measurement structures.
• Document lessons learned, capture best practices, and improve workflows.
• Contribute innovation and digital execution input to work orders, RFPs, and contracts.
• Check project documentation for alignment with the innovation roadmap and plans.
• Carry out regular reviews of innovation-plan implementation and project maturity, and identify improvement opportunities.
• Promote an innovation-first culture where ideas and improvement opportunities are actively raised, assessed, and implemented.

Experience and Background

The role requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction, or Computer Science, along with 10 to 13 years of experience on large, complex AEC projects. At least 5 years of that experience should be in innovation, digital automation, or GIS/BIM/Reality Capture implementation. Candidates should also have a background in creating innovation strategies and plans, and experience designing, building, and deploying dashboards using PowerBI or a similar tool. Prior work with senior client leaders, project cross-functional teams, design consultants, and contractors is expected.
