The opportunity
Fisher & Paykel is a New Zealand-founded brand with a global footprint and a strong local legacy. The company’s culture is shaped by curiosity, collaboration, and a drive to build solutions around people. Its values include trust, sustainability, innovation, generosity, and curiosity, all in support of a long-term goal: becoming the world’s most human-centred appliance brand.
Fisher & Paykel Home Solutions is expanding its residential solar and whole-of-home energy offering, and is seeking an experienced Residential Solar Design Engineer to join the Design Services team in Auckland.
This role is a hands-on engineering design position focused on creating residential solar and energy solutions that are technically robust, commercially sensible, and designed to deliver strong customer outcomes. You will work with Product, Sales, Installation, and Service teams to convert customer needs into practical designs that support more sustainable living.
With a growing portfolio of residential projects across Auckland and beyond, this role offers variety, technical depth, and the chance to contribute to the future of integrated home energy solutions.
What you’ll do
You will create detailed residential solar and energy system designs that satisfy engineering, compliance, and customer requirements. The work includes interpreting customer specifications, producing drawings, carrying out energy modelling and system calculations, and ensuring each solution is technically sound and workable in practice.
You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to provide technical guidance that supports smooth installations and strong customer experiences. You will also help improve design processes, standards, and internal capability as the Home Solutions business continues to evolve.
Your scope will include residential solar PV systems, whole-of-home energy solutions, energy modelling, HVAC and hot-water considerations, load calculations, and designing systems that reduce energy costs while improving sustainability.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving technical problems and designing practical solutions that make a real difference. The ideal candidate combines engineering knowledge with curiosity, accuracy, and a strong focus on customer value.
You should be collaborative, comfortable working with others to solve complex issues, open to challenging conventional approaches, and willing to share knowledge while continuously improving how work is done. A strong commitment to quality, safety, and excellent customer outcomes is essential.
Experience and technical background
You need at least 3 years of experience in designing or installing residential solar systems. Experience with HVAC or hot-water systems will be considered an advantage.
Strong working knowledge of AS/NZS standards 4777, 5033, 5139, and 4509 is important, along with a solid understanding of residential construction and building codes.
Experience with solar design and modelling tools such as SolarPlus, PVSyst, TRNSYS, or Revit is also expected.
Skills and strengths
The role calls for strong analytical ability, close attention to detail, and confidence in managing multiple design priorities at once.
What’s on offer
This position gives you the chance to design solutions that improve daily life for customers while contributing to cleaner, more sustainable energy use across homes in New Zealand and Australia.
You’ll be joining a large, complex global organisation headquartered in New Zealand, and a collaborative team working at the leading edge of residential renewable energy.
The package includes a competitive salary, a hybrid working environment, and a modern new headquarters in Penrose, Auckland. You will also have access to development pathways and progression opportunities.
Additional benefits include generous discounts on Fisher & Paykel and Haier products, life and disability insurance, subsidised medical cover, access to the Whānau/Family leave policy, a subsidised on-site café, and complimentary parking when working from the office.
The company also highlights exceptional leadership and the reputation of a trusted heritage brand that continues to be recognised among New Zealand’s most trusted brands.
