Financial Controller

About the Role

A well-established and growing business in County Meath is looking for a commercially focused finance leader to take ownership of the finance agenda. This position will play a key role in the Ireland leadership team and will help shape the direction of the finance function as the company continues to expand.

The role reports to the Managing Director and covers the full finance remit, with a strong strategic element aimed at supporting business decisions and driving value across the organisation. It is a broad position within a small finance team, combining commercial insight with hands-on operational responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, guide, and support the finance team.
• Prepare financial reports and analyse KPI performance.
• Own budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, including comparison against planned figures.
• Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes end to end.
• Supervise payroll operations.
• Handle statutory submissions and filings.
• Run the year-end process and coordinate with group auditors.
• Assess and improve accounting systems, controls, policies, and procedures to strengthen finance operations.
• Drive procurement improvements and cost optimisation.
• Prepare and assess business proposals that support growth.
• Manage financial, operational, and commercial risk.
• Oversee treasury activities.

Candidate Profile

The position is high visibility within the organisation, so the successful applicant should bring strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a practical approach to finance management.

• Qualified accountant with a minimum of 8 years post-qualification experience.
• Background in a hands-on role within a fast-moving environment.
• Proven experience leading and developing a team.
• Strong technical knowledge of financial accounting.
• Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work to demanding deadlines with a sharp eye for detail and high standards of output.
• Self-motivated team player who can also work independently.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Practical working knowledge of financial systems.
