Role overview
The Campus Cleaning Services team within the Estates Department is hiring a Facilities Assistant to support student accommodation and campus facilities. The position focuses on delivering a prompt, customer-oriented service across residences, along with minor maintenance tasks, compliance checks and general support duties.
The Campus Cleaning Services operation supports cleaning across 7,076 campus bedrooms, 479 hotel rooms and 65 university buildings.
Key duties
- Carry out small-scale, non-technical repairs and basic maintenance work.
- Replace or service simple fixtures and equipment, and report faults or damage that need specialist attention.
- Examples of tasks include unblocking toilets and sinks, changing shower fittings, resetting refrigerators, replacing Salto batteries and replacing light bulbs.
- Clean and maintain entrances, windows, stairways, walls, ceilings, light diffusers and other shared areas to the required standard.
- Use, clean and look after industrial and standard floor-care equipment.
- Support the movement of furniture, materials and staff by driving University fleet vehicles as needed.
Working pattern
This is a 36.5-hour weekly role working 5 days out of 7 on a rota, including Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekday hours are Monday to Thursday from 08:30 to 17:00 and Friday from 08:30 to 16:00, while weekend hours vary depending on operational needs.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will be a reliable team player with strong customer service focus and the ability to work well with students, staff and visitors. The role also requires a good level of physical fitness and the ability to perform manual handling tasks.
Driving requirement
A full UK driving licence is essential. To be covered under the University vehicle insurance policy, applicants must hold a full UK or EU-equivalent licence that has been valid for at least 1 year and must have no serious driving convictions. Any period of disqualification must have ended at least 1 year ago.
