Data Science Intern

As a Data Science Intern, you will apply machine learning, statistical thinking, experimentation, and related methods to improve products and create measurable business impact. You will work with partners across teams to define problem-solving approaches, use algorithms and data sources in line with business and engineering needs, and combine analytical ability with engineering skills to enhance customer experiences. Microsoft’s data scientists rely on modern techniques, algorithms, and tools to generate outcomes across devices, operating systems, products, and services, as well as to uncover useful insights about business and customer behavior.

Interns at Microsoft contribute to live projects with global teams while gaining hands-on exposure to advanced technology, collaborative problem-solving, and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Design structured approaches to problems using suitable algorithms and relevant data sets.
• Bring product knowledge and customer context into the way problems are framed and solved.
• Apply exploratory analysis to identify fresh questions, assess what the available data can and cannot support, and spot new opportunities.
• Review analytical outputs, test methods for accuracy, and keep refining work through monitoring, analysis, and iteration.
• Work with stakeholders and peers to turn findings into clear, practical insights that can improve products and services for millions of users.
• Take part in peer reviews, respond to feedback, and continue learning new methods, algorithms, and tools to strengthen the quality and usefulness of your work.

Requirements

• At present, you should be enrolled in a doctorate program in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
• You must have at least one more quarter or semester of study left after the internship ends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s students in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related area are preferred.
