You will speak directly with patients about payment plans, charity support programs, and ways to resolve outstanding accounts. Key accountabilities
- Handle patient billing questions and close account issues promptly, accurately, and professionally.
- Record payments, adjustments, and related financial transactions correctly in billing systems.
- Speak with patients to set up payment arrangements and explain available financial aid or charity programs.
- Review and resolve billing differences involving patients and outside payers.
- Escalate account concerns, workflow blockers, or complex issues to management when needed.
- Reprocess accounts and update billing records to keep information accurate and compliant.
- Assess whether patients qualify for financial assistance programs, including Medicare-related charity guidelines.
- Maintain courteous, clear, and professional communication with patients at all times.
- Partner with internal teams to resolve balances efficiently and correctly.
- Follow billing procedures, collection policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential is required.
- At least 1 year of experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
- At least 1 year of customer service experience is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a polished, empathetic approach.
- Comfort handling sensitive financial conversations with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
- Basic familiarity with medical billing terminology and core concepts is preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance billing workflows, payer systems, and collection processes is an advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability with close attention to detail.
- Ability to perform well in a busy, stressful office setting with frequent interruptions.
- Working knowledge of standard computer tools, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
