Overview

The Oregon Health Authority’s Oregon State Hospital Environmental Services team is hiring Custodians in Salem. These roles support a sanitary, safe, and therapeutic setting for patients and staff by keeping the facility aligned with agency cleanliness expectations.

Key Duties

• Clean and disinfect spills, bodily substances, and accident areas.
• Collect biohazardous waste and sharps and deliver them to a secure designated storage area.
• Disinfect patient wards during infectious disease outbreaks.
• Sweep, dust, mop, and buff hard flooring surfaces.
• Vacuum carpets, spot clean carpeted areas, and remove trash.
• Scrub, rinse, and refinish floors; clean, shampoo, and extract carpet and upholstered furniture.
• Maintain custodial tools and equipment in working order.
• Prepare floors and walls for remodeling and renovation work.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• At least 6 months of custodial experience, including the use of equipment needed for custodial work.
• Ability to push or pull heavy equipment, lift up to 50 pounds, and spend extended periods crouching, stooping, bending, standing, or walking for about 90% of the shift.

Preferred Experience

• Strong custodial organization and scheduling skills.
• Ability to use technology and training to improve productivity and performance.
• Experience working respectfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and valuing individual differences.
• Hands-on use of commercial custodial equipment such as carpet extractors, scrubbers, buffers, no-touch cleaning systems, and commercial vacuums.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemical dilution ratios and safe application methods.
• Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize duties and complete work in order of importance.

Compensation and Hiring Details

The posted pay range is $3,515 to $3,798 per month. Custodian positions at Oregon State Hospital receive a 10% pay differential above base pay. If the selected candidate qualifies for PERS, the salary range increases by an additional 6.95%. Salary placement will be based on an equal pay review of education, experience, and training. The agency does not provide visa sponsorship, and hired employees must complete I-9 verification within three days of starting.
