About the role
JTI is a global organization that values individual differences and aims to create a workplace where people feel they belong. In Tanzania, this position acts as the main security lead, working under delegated authority from the Regional Corporate Security Director and in close coordination with the Tanzania General Manager, Factory Lead, and local leadership. The role is responsible for shaping and delivering a practical, risk-focused, and cost-conscious security approach that supports the business.
The position covers security strategy, oversight, and operational support for all JTI activities in Tanzania. It includes work across risk assessment, crisis response, incident handling, personnel protection, travel and event security, executive protection, physical security standards, audits, investigations, background checks, due diligence, and team leadership. The role also requires building strong working relationships with internal teams, public authorities, law enforcement, intelligence and security bodies, and external partners. Regional support may also be required when directed by the Regional Corporate Security Director.
Responsibilities
- Lead country security initiatives, keep the Security Risk Register up to date, assist with crisis response and incident management training, and propose measures that reduce security exposure.
- Protect staff, executives, visitors, and company property through security programs, travel support, audits, assessments, and supply chain security improvements.
- Carry out or support impartial investigations into security incidents while working with Compliance, Legal, People & Culture, Corporate Audit, Health & Safety, and Operations.
- Develop and maintain strong connections with company leaders, cross-functional teams, law enforcement, government bodies, security organizations, and industry groups to advance security objectives.
- Prepare and manage the yearly security budget, supervise security vendors and service agreements, and ensure security spending is used effectively.
- Coach and grow the local Corporate Security team through development planning, succession support, and participation in the Corporate Security Talent Development Program.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in security, risk management, criminal justice, business administration, or a closely related discipline; equivalent experience with strong achievements may also be considered.
- Professional certifications such as CPP, PSP, or PCI are an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in the military, law enforcement, intelligence, or private-sector corporate security.
- Strong command of English and Swahili; knowledge of additional local languages is beneficial.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with solid report writing and presentation skills.
- Exposure to security management systems, incident reporting tools, and data analysis platforms will be useful.
Selection process
If shortlisted after application closure, the next stages are expected within 1 to 3 weeks and usually include a phone screening with a Talent Advisor, assessment tests, interviews, and then an offer. Each stage is eliminatory, and the sequence may differ depending on the role.
Equal opportunity
JTI is committed to diversity and inclusion and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. If you need any support, an alternative format, or accessibility assistance during the process, you can request it.
