Assistant Project Manager

Role Overview

An infrastructure solutions team in Edmonton, Alberta is hiring an Assistant Project Manager to support large-scale electrical infrastructure work. The role reports to the Project Manager responsible for project development and support, and involves close coordination with Project Managers and Project Coordinators. The position is centered on practical project support across transmission projects throughout Canada, with attention to schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and communication with stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities

• Work with the Project Manager to build, update, and monitor project schedules, key milestones, and execution plans.
• Assist with procurement and subcontract administration, including reviewing quotes, tracking commitments, and checking performance against contract requirements.
• Compile and share weekly and monthly progress reports for the Project Manager and senior leadership.
• Monitor project spending, prepare invoices, forecast cost changes, and contribute to financial performance updates.
• Act as the main day-to-day contact for clients, subcontractors, regulators, and project partners on behalf of the Project Manager.

Required Background

• Post-secondary study in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a closely related discipline.
• An equivalent mix of relevant education and work experience may also be accepted.
• At least 3 years of experience in project management or project coordination in the construction or infrastructure sector.
• Solid understanding of project management practices and controls, including scheduling, budgeting, and change management.
• A PMP designation is preferred, or the candidate should be actively pursuing it.
• Strong Excel skills for tracking data, preparing reports, and conducting financial analysis.

Preferred Experience

• Background supporting electrical infrastructure projects.
• Hands-on experience with project cost control.
