Role Purpose

The Assistant-ARFF role exists to support airport emergency response activities, including aircraft and building fire incidents, medical emergencies, hazardous material situations, rescue operations, and related crises within airport premises. The position is critical for protecting passengers, crew, staff, and assets through firefighting, rescue, and basic emergency medical support.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to respond rapidly to incidents involving aircraft, structures, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, and other airport emergencies. The role also covers active firefighting, rescue work, and emergency medical assistance to safeguard people and property.

Fire control duties include applying appropriate suppression methods such as water, foam, dry chemical agents, and other extinguishing media. You will also carry out search and rescue activities in smoke-affected or hazardous conditions.

In emergency medical situations, you will provide first aid and basic life support until specialized medical teams arrive, and assist with patient transfer to medical facilities when required.

Operational preparedness is a major part of the job, including daily checks and upkeep of fire vehicles, extinguishers, and personal protective equipment. You will be responsible for tracking consumables and equipment availability, and for participating in emergency drills, ICAO-required training, and routine simulations.

Documentation and compliance duties include maintaining incident reports, training records, and shift logs suitable for audits. You must follow SOPs and all applicable local, state, and federal fire and emergency-response rules, while also identifying hazards during patrols and taking corrective action without delay.

The role requires coordination with airport operations, medical teams, external emergency agencies, the Duty Manager, ATC, and airport authorities during live incidents and drills.

Stakeholder Interaction

Internal stakeholders include the Duty Manager - ARFF, Airport Operations Team, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF Crew Members, Engineering & Maintenance Team, and the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Team.

External stakeholders include the Local Fire Services Department, airlines operating at the airport, ground handling companies, ARFF equipment manufacturers and service providers, insurance companies, local community leaders, and civil aviation authorities.

Qualifications

A Diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or a similar qualification is required, along with certification from an accredited firefighting academy.

Experience

Applicants should have 2 to 3 years of firefighting experience, ideally in aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) operations.
