Overview
Central Car Auctions in Stafford is hiring a Yard Operative to support the daily running of the site and keep vehicle movements aligned with the auction timetable. The position involves hands-on yard work, front-line customer interaction, and close coordination with multiple teams across the business.
Working hours
This is a full-time position with the following schedule: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.
What the role involves
You will help organise the movement of sold and unsold vehicles around the site, carry out general yard tasks, and support auction operations from start to finish. The job also includes producing and fitting number plates, checking vehicle stock, and speaking with customers in person. Because the work is varied and busy, it suits someone who stays organised, communicates confidently, and is comfortable working in a fast-moving environment.
Daily duties
- Coordinate the movement of sold and unsold vehicles across the site in line with the auction plan
- Carry out general yard tasks such as making and fitting number plates, completing stock checks, and dealing with customers face to face
- Provide progress updates and reports to managers showing what has been completed
- Follow company policies and objectives, helping ensure team-wide compliance with agreed standards
- Work with different departments to keep the auction process running smoothly and on time

Skills and experience needed
The ideal candidate will work well with others, be focused on positive outcomes, and communicate clearly both in person and by phone. Strong time management, a structured approach, the ability to work independently, and calm decision-making under pressure are all important. Accuracy and the ability to juggle several tasks during busy periods are also essential. Knowledge of Kingfisher is preferred for the role, although training can be provided for the right person.
