Role Overview
RAK Ports is looking for a careful and highly alert VTS Operator to support marine operations at Saqr Port in Ras Al Khaimah. This on-site, full-time position sits within the Marine Department and plays a key part in maintaining safe, smooth, and efficient vessel movement across the port area.
The role involves using Vessel Traffic Services, radar, AIS, VHF radio, and other marine monitoring tools to supervise traffic, support navigational safety, and keep operations running in line with port requirements.
What You Will Do
- Track and manage vessel movement inside port boundaries, anchorage zones, and harbour channels.
- Coordinate berthing, unberthing, vessel shifting, and pilotage activities according to Harbour Master directions.
- Use VTS, radar, AIS, and VHF communication systems to support safe navigation and efficient traffic handling.
- Keep watch on weather updates, navigation warnings, and marine safety requirements, then pass relevant information to vessels and stakeholders.
- Record vessel movements, marine operations, incidents, and daily logs accurately.
- Liaise with vessel masters, marine agents, Coast Guard, pilots, tug crews, and internal teams to ensure marine activities are well coordinated.
- Identify and report hazards, equipment issues, safety breaches, and marine incidents without delay.
- Help ensure adherence to port rules and environmental protection standards.
What You Need
- A bachelor’s degree or a comparable maritime qualification.
- Short Range VHF Radio Certification.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in VTS, VHF radio, radar systems, and port operations.
- Working knowledge of Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP).
- Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
- Competence with computers, especially Microsoft Excel and operational software/tools.
- The ability to stay attentive, assess situations quickly, and make sensible decisions in a fast-moving marine setting.
