Role overview
The Shift Lead supports store operations in a Walgreens location in Texarkana, TX. In the absence of store leadership, this person is responsible for opening and closing the store, preparing the sales floor and stockroom for the day, handling cash-related tasks, and keeping the store running smoothly.
Customer experience
This position is expected to create a friendly, helpful shopping environment by greeting customers and patients, offering product and service support, and resolving questions or concerns so visitors leave satisfied.
Operational duties
- Take responsibility for store opening and closing when management is unavailable, including system start-up, cash handling, and access to the back door for deliveries.
- Process returns, voids, refunds, and cash transfers to the safe, and supply change for registers as needed.
- Support warehouse and vendor ordering processes, including receiving deliveries through the back door.
- Record sales accurately on the assigned register and handle scanning issues, price checks, item lookup problems, price adjustments, and voids.
- Help leadership review order exceptions, manage reverse logistics, and handle items such as returns and empty packaging.
- Assist in building, updating, and resetting promotional, seasonal, and sale displays.
- Maintain correct inventory counts across departments, stockroom, and overstock areas.
- Support the outdate program and help ensure expired or unsellable items are managed correctly.
- Carry out daily pricing updates, keep signage accurate, and complete any pricing work required for local rules or compliance programs on time.
- Help with bookkeeping tasks such as cash reports, cash counts, ledgers, and bill payments when requested.
- Keep the store clean, orderly, and presentable, and request repairs when needed if leadership is unavailable.
- Follow food handling and product placement rules, including safe separation of raw and prepared foods and stock rotation using FIFO.
- Use store systems and equipment with working knowledge and support pharmacy out-window service when asked.
- Ensure regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol are handled in line with state and local laws.
- Complete bag checks for team members before they leave the store.
- Carry out other assigned duties and special projects as needed.
Training and communication
- Attend required training and complete assigned PPLs.
- Act as a communication link between management and team members when leadership is not present.
- Escalate disciplinary concerns and customer complaints to management.

Compensation
The posted pay range is $17 to $20 per hour.
Basic qualifications
- At least 1 year of prior leadership, supervisory, or retail key holder experience is required.
- Strong English reading, writing, and speaking skills are required, except in Puerto Rico.
Preferred qualifications
- Knowledge of store inventory control is preferred.
- Maintaining valid PTCB certification or a pharmacy license, where required by state law, is preferred/required as applicable.
