About the Company
The hiring company supports a widely used Shopify app that helps merchants cut down the pressure on customer support while also opening up a fresh revenue channel through upsells before and after checkout. The customers using this product are typically high-volume Shopify businesses, ranging from seven to nine figures in revenue, so the work focuses on solving serious ecommerce challenges at scale for users around the world.
About the Role
This opportunity is for someone who wants more than a routine job. The team is seeking a highly motivated engineer who is ready to deliver strong outcomes and be rewarded through salary and equity.
You would join a compact engineering team responsible for the full product stack: building and improving the core Shopify app in TypeScript, supporting infrastructure in AWS, managing continuous integration and deployment through GitHub Actions, and treating performance as a built-in product requirement rather than an afterthought.
The position is fully remote. New Zealand or Australia candidates are preferred, though applicants from other locations may also be considered if they can work effectively and deliver results independently.
What You Will Bring
The ideal candidate has prior exposure to Shopify app development, whether through a personal project or experience within a larger company. The team is especially interested in people who can demonstrate this experience in a CV or cover letter.
You should be a self-directed problem solver who does not wait around for tasks to be handed out before contributing. When there is no immediate ticket to work on, you are expected to look into logs, resolve performance problems, investigate browser-specific issues such as tricky Safari bugs, or build a quick proof of concept for another potential revenue stream.
Technical Expectations
- Solid full-stack development experience in TypeScript, such as with Node.js, Next.js, Remix, or similar frameworks.
- Hands-on experience creating Shopify apps, either independently or as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Shopify APIs, including Admin, Storefront, Checkout, and GraphQL, along with query optimization to manage rate limits.
- Practical experience with database tuning and performance work, especially when handling large datasets.
Helpful Extras
- Experience with Shopify Polaris would be an advantage.
- Confidence troubleshooting unexpected CI failures in GitHub Actions would be useful.
- Any direct experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, would be valuable.
Additional Information
The role is fully remote, with preference for candidates based in New Zealand or Australia.
