Senior Civil Engineer

Role overview

This position is for an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to steer and synchronize building construction projects from the early planning phase through execution and final handover. The role is accountable for technical supervision, timeline management, budget consciousness, and coordination across project management, planning, procurement, contracts, and cost control functions to help ensure projects are delivered successfully.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all civil engineering and construction work so it stays aligned with project goals, contract terms, technical specifications, and company standards.
• Serve as the primary technical and coordination contact for site teams, project management, consultants, and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to project strategy, execution planning, and operational decisions throughout all construction phases.
• Partner with planning engineers and project managers to build, track, and refresh schedules as needed.
• Assess construction sequences, recovery plans, and short-term look-ahead programmes.
• Measure actual progress against baseline plans and help drive corrective actions to keep milestones on track.
• Work with cost control, contracts, and commercial teams to monitor budgets, variations, and claims.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing change orders, subcontractor variations, and cost forecasts.
• Ensure site execution remains within contractual obligations and approved budget limits.
• Coordinate with procurement teams on material and subcontractor selection, approvals, and delivery timing.
• Review material submissions and make sure purchasing aligns with construction priorities.
• Manage subcontractor performance to maintain standards for quality, schedule, and cost.
• Review and sign off drawings, method statements, and technical submissions.
• Confirm that construction work follows approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Lead technical issue resolution and support value engineering efforts.
• Ensure health, safety, and environment requirements are implemented across all site operations.
• Identify project and construction risks and support mitigation actions.
• Encourage and reinforce a strong safety culture across the project team.
• Prepare and review reports covering progress, cost, and overall project performance.
• Support senior leadership with status updates and risk evaluations.
• Lead, mentor, and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required.
• At least 10 years of experience in building construction projects is needed, ideally in a leadership capacity.
• Solid experience in building construction and project execution is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate planning, procurement, contracts, and cost control activities.
• Good understanding of project controls, budgeting, and construction contract administration.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and commercial documentation accurately.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office, and project control tools; familiarity with Primavera is an added advantage.
• Strong leadership, coordination, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
