Role overview
The Senior Associate Category Manager for Beer will partner with the Category Director to strengthen brand presence and customer experience across BevMo brick-and-mortar locations. The role focuses on improving product sales through pricing strategy, promotional planning, assortment efficiency, cost negotiations, and effective product placement. Success in this position requires a customer-first mindset, a proactive approach, and the ability to collaborate closely with teams across supply chain, marketing, planning, business development, and digital merchandising to exceed financial goals.
This is a hybrid position based in Concord, CA, with in-office work expected on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during business hours.
What you'll do
- Develop a strong working knowledge of BevMo and Gopuff app operations, internal workflows, and the overall product assortment.
- Own category decisions related to product selection, pricing, placement, and marketing.
- Create merchandising and category strategies that grow sales, improve margins, and support key performance metrics.
- Track performance across multiple classes and store locations, then use data analysis to shape future plans.
- Use internal and external data to make informed decisions that drive additional sales.
- Build assortment strategies that reflect territory-specific needs, including volume, package size, distribution, and local market trends.
- Work with supply chain, pricing, and finance teams to improve revenue and meet financial targets for the relevant product groups.
- Perform competitive shopping and pricing analysis at both national and local levels to ensure strong product coverage and healthy margins.
- Stay current on category trends and shifts in the competitive landscape.
What we're looking for
- A bachelor's degree is required.
- At least 5 years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, or category management.
- Background in alcohol beverages, especially beer or hard and spiked products, is preferred.
- Advanced Excel proficiency is mandatory for this role; SQL knowledge is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of supply chain, marketing, and financial planning is necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership, act independently, and be accountable for business outcomes.
- Ability to move quickly and respond with urgency.
- Previous experience in managing, training, and developing people is required.
