The organisation is accredited by NATA and ISO 9001, helping ensure services align with Australian and international standards.

Role overview

We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Quality Coordinator to join the Natural Resources – Geochemistry team in Orange, New South Wales, with regular travel to West Wyalong. This role suits an experienced laboratory quality specialist who enjoys strengthening quality systems, supporting technical work, and helping teams produce accurate and dependable results.

Reporting to the National Quality Manager, you will take local responsibility for the laboratory quality system and help ensure alignment with SGS procedures, ISO 9001 requirements, and, where relevant, ISO 17025 standards. You will work alongside laboratory and operations teams to manage calibration schedules, coordinate audits, track quality performance, support method validation, and promote a strong culture of quality and safety across the site.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain the laboratory quality system so it remains aligned with SGS quality procedures, ISO 9001, and applicable ISO 17025 requirements.
  • Plan, carry out, and follow up on internal audits, including G6 LIMS audits, while also supporting preparation for external audits and corrective actions afterward.
  • Track laboratory quality results, manage non-conformances, and assist with corrective and preventive action activities.
  • Keep quality procedures, method validation documents, calibration plans, and other essential quality records up to date.
  • Deliver practical and theory-based quality training to team members to strengthen best-practice behaviours across the laboratory.
  • Contribute to health, safety, and environment programs, including local safety initiatives, KPI tracking, and broader SGS corporate programs.
  • Work with operational teams to uphold data integrity, technical standards, and continuous improvement goals.

About you

You are a well-organised and self-motivated quality professional with solid laboratory experience and hands-on knowledge of QA/QC processes. You enjoy collaborating with others, solving problems, and improving systems while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.

  • Prior experience in a laboratory quality, QA/QC, or compliance position.
  • Good working knowledge of laboratory quality systems, QHSE practices, and chemical processes.
  • Practical understanding of ISO 9001 systems; ISO 17025 experience is an advantage.
  • Experience assisting with audits, non-conformance handling, corrective actions, and method validation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Highly organised with sound planning and time-management skills, including the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Intermediate computer skills and confidence using quality systems and documentation tools.

Why join SGS

  • Join a worldwide leader in testing, inspection, and certification services.
  • Help deliver quality outcomes that support reliable laboratory results and strong operational performance.
  • Be part of a collaborative workplace where safety, quality, and integrity are central values.
  • Gain access to continuous learning, development, and career pathways across a global organisation.
