Role overview

They are looking to appoint a Project Engineer to support a medical device client in the Limerick Metropolitan Area. The role focuses on engineering support, project delivery, validation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement across equipment and process-related activities.

Key responsibilities

In this position, you will support equipment installation, upgrades, and new equipment introduction, while also helping define technical requirements and specifications in line with process, safety, and customer needs. You will take ownership of small to medium projects, help estimate budgets, assess enabling technologies, and present options to management, customers, and stakeholders.

The role also includes providing technical input for projects, supporting equipment and process validation activities in line with internal manufacturing requirements, and assisting with supplier discussions. You will use project management tools such as user requirement specifications and Microsoft Project to keep work on track, build strong product and process knowledge, and become a local subject matter resource.

Additional duties include evaluating equipment performance, downtime, and maintenance needs; initiating improvement projects that strengthen compliance, output, yield, and throughput; identifying root causes and implementing solutions for non-conformances through NCMR and CAPA workflows; working closely with cross-functional teams; closing quality system actions and records; and ensuring safety and environmental requirements are built into new and existing equipment purchases and modifications. Vendor management is also part of the role.

Authority and working standards

You will have the authority to stop work if an unsafe practice could lead to injury, environmental harm, or risk to equipment or personnel. You are expected to perform all duties in line with quality, safety, and environmental requirements at all times.

Requirements

This opportunity is suited to candidates with a degree or equivalent qualification in production, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering, along with at least 4 years of relevant engineering experience. Background in a GMP or medical device manufacturing setting is required, as is hands-on exposure to equipment and process validation and process development.

Applicants should be comfortable with ISO safety standards and have a strong understanding of statistical process control and capability analysis using ANOVA and DOE. Experience with black belt statistical methods and validation in an FDA-regulated environment would be an advantage. The ideal person will take a scientific approach to problem solving, combine analytical and experimental thinking to improve productivity and yield, and build effective working relationships across the organisation.
