About the Role

As a Platform Engineer in the Sydney team, you will help build and maintain the foundation for a next-generation banking platform. Your work will provide the runtime environment that shields feature teams from the complexity of the underlying infrastructure.

This is a broad platform role that goes well beyond a basic Kubernetes setup. You will work across multiple AWS accounts and a wide range of systems and services, with regular opportunities to explore different parts of the stack.

Platform Scope

• Networking across ingress, egress, DMZ, clusters, load balancers, cross-account, cross-region, and cross-VPC setups, plus third-party B2B integrations.
• Security areas including OAuth, mTLS, IAM, security configuration, service mesh, egress controls, and HashiCorp Vault.
• Data components such as Aurora PostgreSQL, database tuning, Kafka, and caching.
• Platform infrastructure built on Kubernetes in AWS, managed with Terraform, with a control layer designed for tier-1 resilience and 99.99% availability.
• Operational tooling and CI/CD using Go and Python, supported by Jenkins, Concourse CI, and validation or linting tools.
• Feature team services built with Java, Spring Boot, and Quarkus, although your direct involvement with these will be more limited.

Ways of Working

The team values practical engineering, clear communication, and collaborative problem-solving over perfectionism. You are expected to research, ask questions, read documentation, and use AI thoughtfully as a support tool when it helps.

The environment is open and flexible, with a working pattern of approximately two days per week in the office. The company emphasizes trust, judgement, and accountability rather than rigid rules.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring strong engineering fundamentals, an interest in writing code for the right reasons rather than relying on deep expertise in a single language, and a genuine focus on quality and testing.

You should also have practical experience supporting scalable production systems on AWS and Kubernetes, along with a solid understanding of how AI is currently used in software development.

Additional experience with multi-region systems or operating fully managed Kubernetes clusters in the cloud would be especially valuable.

Additional Information

This position is based on a Sydney contract. Although the company supports remote working, employees are expected to attend the office about twice each week in agreement with their manager.

Commuting expenses to the office are not covered by the employer and remain the employee’s responsibility.
