Job Summary

The Housekeeper role supports the upkeep of hospital and clinic spaces by cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing designated areas in line with established procedures. The position helps ensure the facility remains neat, safe, and hygienic. It also includes moving furniture, equipment, and supplies throughout hospital departments and buildings as needed.

Department Overview

Environmental Services is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary setting across Samaritan Health Services facilities in support of its healthcare mission. The work includes general cleaning, floor and carpet care, minor repairs, lending tables, chairs, and equipment, custodial support, linen handling, and waste removal.

Experience, Education, and Qualifications

• A high school diploma or an equivalent credential is preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in a hospital, long-term care, or medical office environment is preferred.
• A current Oregon driver’s license is preferred, though it is not mandatory for every applicant.
• Some work locations require use of a personal vehicle. In those cases, the employee must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain auto liability and property damage insurance as required by law, along with a vehicle kept in proper working condition.
• If the employee operates Samaritan Health Services vehicles, successful completion of the Drivers Privileges for SHS Vehicles application process is required.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong customer service awareness, including understanding service needs and meeting quality expectations.
• Ability to work effectively with different disciplines and contribute to a cooperative team environment.
• Problem-solving skills with the ability to assess issues and identify practical solutions.
• Good time management for organizing priorities, meeting deadlines, and handling several tasks at once in a fast-paced setting.
• Understanding of confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA and other applicable state and federal privacy rules.

Physical Requirements

The role involves a mix of physical activities performed rarely, frequently, and continually, including standing, walking on level surfaces and inclines, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, reaching, grasping, pinching, rotating the trunk, entering and exiting vehicles or machinery, and performing manual and finger dexterity tasks. Lifting and carrying demands range from 0 to 60 lbs depending on the activity, including floor-to-waist lifts, knee-to-chest lifts, overhead lifts, and one-handed or two-handed carries. Pushing and pulling may require up to 40 to 60 pounds of force.
