Role overview

This leadership role is responsible for establishing and running the Quality Management System for cell, pack, BESS, and EV battery products at the Gigafactory. The position ensures that product quality is protected from the design stage through manufacturing and into field performance, while promoting a strong zero-defect culture.

The ideal candidate should bring 12 to 18 years of experience in quality and reliability engineering within a manufacturing setting. Strong exposure to APQP/PPAP, IATF 16949, and supplier quality management is required. Prior work in battery, automotive, or high-precision electronics manufacturing is strongly preferred.

Qualification requirements

A master’s degree in Quality, Reliability, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering is required. Formal Six Sigma training, preferably Black Belt level, is expected. IATF 16949 lead auditor certification will be considered an added advantage.

Core responsibilities

The role involves building and owning the QMS for cell, pack, BESS, and EV battery products, as well as managing APQP and PPAP across all product lines. It also includes setting clear quality KPIs, creating dashboards, and establishing regular review routines for teams.

On the reliability side, the role will lead engineering efforts to ensure design and test plans support lifecycle and warranty targets. The position requires applying FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, Weibull analysis, field failure investigation, 8D problem solving, and complaint resolution.

For supplier quality, the incumbent will help teams qualify and monitor suppliers using AIAG tools and best practices, conduct supplier audits, oversee corrective action plans, and develop a supplier scorecard to improve performance.

The job also covers quality analytics and reporting, including warranty analysis, interpretation of field reliability data, and development of dashboards for leadership. Findings must be translated into practical improvements in product and process quality, with regular reporting to the COO and senior leadership.
