Role Overview
The Head Baker will take ownership of daily bakery production and help ensure consistently high standards across all baked goods. This role combines hands-on baking expertise with team leadership, menu innovation, inventory control, and strict food-safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day baking activities and make sure all products meet quality expectations.
- Create, improve, and trial new recipes to expand and strengthen the bakery offering.
- Guide, coach, and develop bakers and pastry team members so output remains consistent and polished.
- Track stock levels and place orders in time to avoid shortages or unnecessary waste.
- Maintain strong compliance with hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards.
- Keep the bakery area tidy, well arranged, and operating efficiently.
- Work with management on seasonal offerings and special-event menus.
- Review customer input and use it to refine products and service.
- Manage ingredient usage and cost controls while preserving product quality.
- Stay current with bakery trends and bring in fresh techniques or ingredients where relevant.
Requirements
- Proven background as a Head Baker or in another senior bakery leadership position.
- Strong knowledge of baking methods, ingredient behavior, and modern bakery equipment.
- Ability to adapt recipes to changing customer preferences and product needs.
- Solid leadership, mentoring, and team supervision skills.
- Good planning and time management in a busy, fast-moving setting.
- Careful attention to detail and a strong commitment to high standards.
- Deep understanding of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety rules.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Commercial awareness to support budgeting, waste reduction, and operational efficiency.
- Genuine enthusiasm for baking, creativity, and continuous improvement.
