About the role
Evernote, now part of Bending Spoons, is looking for a graduate software engineer to help build and improve products used by millions. By applying for this role, you may work directly on Evernote or contribute to another product in the broader Bending Spoons portfolio. In either case, you’ll join a fast-moving, collaborative team with a strong focus on quality, innovation, and operational discipline.
Bending Spoons aims to build an exceptional long-term business by acquiring and improving digital products rather than flipping them. Teams are intentionally small, highly capable, and expected to operate with startup-like speed while maintaining high standards. The company also integrates AI deeply into everyday work so that human judgment and machine capabilities complement one another.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of meaningful work from concept through production, building and improving systems that serve a large user base.
- Use AI tools throughout the development process, including design, coding, testing, and documentation, while keeping work reliable, maintainable, and correct.
- Work across different technologies and architectures, selecting practical tools based on the problem rather than on trends.
- Continuously reduce unnecessary complexity by improving codebases, pipelines, and system architecture.
What we're looking for
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills, with the ability to solve difficult problems from first principles.
- High ambition, personal drive, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- A collaborative mindset, with willingness to support teammates and prioritize the best solution over personal preference.
- Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
What we offer
- Highly capable, entrepreneurial teams working in a small and autonomous setup.
- Excellent growth prospects, with opportunities to take on major responsibility early in your career.
- Competitive compensation plus potential access to company equity for permanent roles.
- Flexible hours, remote work, unlimited learning and training support, premium health insurance, relocation assistance, strong parental support, and an annual retreat to a scenic destination.
- The option to start part-time and move to full-time while finishing your degree.
Compensation
For candidates with limited experience, typical annual compensation is £85,797 in London and €66,065 elsewhere in Europe. For candidates assessed as having substantial relevant experience, the usual range is £112,189 to £250,512 in London and €107,837 to €188,848 elsewhere in Europe. In exceptional cases, compensation can exceed these ranges based on expected impact. If the role is permanent, part of the pay may be received as company equity at a discounted price. If relocating to Italy, a 50% tax cut may apply.
Contract and location
This is a permanent or fixed-term full-time role. The position can be based in Milan, London, Madrid, Warsaw, or worked remotely from selected approved countries. For the first few months, working from the Milan office is recommended to help with onboarding and team integration; travel and accommodation support are provided for that period. Afterward, work may continue from Milan, London, or remotely from approved countries depending on the final agreement.
Selection process
Hiring is based on verifiable signals of excellence, with no preferred routes through the process. Candidates who pass the initial screening may be asked to complete one or more challenging tests that can take several hours. The company evaluates all applicants through the same process and may keep a role open for an extended period if the right candidate has not yet been found.
Additional information
If you have applied before and were not offered the role, you are advised to wait at least one year before reapplying. The company considers all applicants for employment and offers reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities. The work environment is demanding and requires significant commitment, but it is intended to support strong learning, achievement, and career growth. Candidates do not need to wait for graduation to apply, and flexible start dates are available. Part-time arrangements are also possible at the beginning, with a transition to full-time as the degree is completed.
