About the Organisation

North Harbour Gymnastics is New Zealand’s biggest gymnastics body and a highly successful organisation, serving more than 4,000 members through recreational, community, neurodiverse, and performance pathways. It works from several venues and creates gymnastics experiences for thousands of children, young people, and families every year.

The club is also an important part of the local community, helping young people build self-belief, resilience, movement ability, and an active lifestyle they can carry through life. In addition to its participation programmes, it has a strong record of athlete development, with several gymnasts reaching regional, national, and international levels, including representation for New Zealand on the world stage.

The organisation is now entering a major period of change. Future developments involving Eventfinda Stadium, the Fred Thomas Park redevelopment, stakeholder partnerships, and funding relationships will play a key role in shaping what comes next.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Board, the General Manager will take overall responsibility for North Harbour Gymnastics’ strategic direction, financial health, and organisational effectiveness.

This is a critical leadership position at an important time in the organisation’s growth and evolution. Working with a newly appointed Director of Operations, the successful candidate will focus on strategy, financial sustainability, stakeholder engagement, governance support, funding relationships, and significant change initiatives.

A major part of the role will be building the organisation’s external profile and influence. The General Manager will lead engagement with funders, council representatives, sporting bodies, community partners, and other key stakeholders, ensuring the organisation has a strong and credible voice in future opportunities.

The role will also guide major organisational projects, including discussions about the future of Eventfinda Stadium and broader facility planning matters.

This position will suit a leader who brings together commercial and financial strength, strong relationship-building ability, community-minded values, and the confidence to lead through complexity and transformation.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and drive organisational strategy, long-term performance, and sustainability.
• Improve financial results, strengthen funding capacity, and broaden revenue sources.
• Develop trusted relationships with councils, funders, community groups, and sporting stakeholders.
• Provide leadership across major projects and organisational change.
• Support the Board with clear reporting, analysis, and governance guidance.
• Build a positive culture, strengthen leadership capability, and increase stakeholder confidence.
• Oversee risk management, compliance, and organisational resilience.

What You’ll Bring

• Significant senior leadership experience in a complex organisation.
• Strong capability in finance, commercial decision-making, and business management.
• A proven record of building partnerships, stakeholder relationships, and funding opportunities.
• Experience leading change, transformation, or growth.
• Credibility in working with Boards and offering strategic advice.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
• A clear commitment to community outcomes and purpose-driven leadership.
• Background in sport, recreation, community, or membership-based organisations will be an advantage.
