Role overview
The General Insurance Executive will manage claims for project-related and catastrophe-driven losses, including incidents caused by flooding, fire, and heavy rainfall. This position calls for hands-on claims expertise, close coordination with surveyors and other external partners, and a strong focus on closing claims in line with policy conditions.
Key responsibilities
- Take ownership of general insurance claims from initial notice of loss through final settlement.
- Handle claims connected to construction and project risks, property damage, and major catastrophe events.
- Examine policy scope, exclusions, and whether a claim qualifies for payment.
- Assess losses arising from flood, fire, intense rainfall, and other natural disasters.
- Work with loss assessors, surveyors, and investigators to validate incidents and damage severity.
- Collect, check, and track required documents such as claim forms, invoices, and site reports.
- Maintain accurate claim files, records, and MIS reporting.
- Prepare concise claim summaries and technical notes.
- Coordinate with insurers, reinsurers, brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Serve as the main contact for claim progress updates.
- Support claim evaluation, negotiation, and settlement discussions.
- Monitor pending claims and drive them to timely closure.
- Help secure fair and reasonable claim outcomes.
- Follow company processes and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Flag possible fraud, inconsistencies, and unusual claim patterns.
- Identify trends in losses and emerging risk patterns.
Required skills and competencies
- Solid understanding of general insurance lines, especially property, engineering, and project insurance.
- Practical experience handling catastrophe claims such as flood, fire, and rain-related damage.
- Working knowledge of policy language, coverage, and exclusions.
- Strong analytical ability and problem-solving approach.
- Effective communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Ability to manage several claims simultaneously under strict deadlines.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree is required; preference will be given to candidates from Engineering, Commerce, Insurance, or Risk Management backgrounds.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in general insurance claims is required.
- Experience in project claims or catastrophe claims is mandatory.
Preferred background
- Exposure to construction project claims under CAR or EAR policies.
- Experience working with surveyors and loss adjusters.
- Knowledge of IRDAI regulations in the Indian insurance context.
