Position Summary
The Executive Director of Operations is a senior leadership position focused on keeping the business running smoothly and efficiently while supporting profitability and long-term expansion. This role is responsible for shaping operational direction, guiding teams across functions, improving internal processes, and making sure everyday execution supports broader company goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the organization’s daily operating activities across departments and business units.
- Create, refine, and roll out operational policies, procedures, and plans that reinforce company objectives.
- Strengthen efficiency, output, and cost control by spotting and acting on improvement opportunities.
- Track KPIs and other operational measures to confirm progress against business targets.
- Work closely with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and their execution.
- Manage operating budgets, forecasts, and resource deployment to support strong business performance.
- Make sure operations remain aligned with internal policies, relevant regulations, and quality expectations.
- Identify operational risks and put mitigation plans in place to protect business continuity.
- Lead change efforts and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
- Coordinate teams from different functions so business activities are executed smoothly.
- Oversee staffing plans, employee development, and performance management within operational groups.
- Assess and introduce technology tools that improve operational effectiveness.
- Maintain productive relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Compile operational updates and present performance insights to executive leadership and the board.
Qualifications
The role calls for a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Management, Finance, Engineering, or a closely related area. An MBA is preferred.
Candidates should bring 8 to 15 years of progressive experience in operations management, including work at senior leadership level, along with a record of leading large operational functions and cross-functional teams.
A strong grasp of business operations, process improvement, organizational development, budgeting, financial analysis, and performance management is essential. The position also requires excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making abilities, plus strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Success in this role depends on the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving business environment.
