Energy Trader, Analyst

Join a busy energy trading desk in Asia where you will support client pricing, market analysis, and trading decisions that help grow revenue and strengthen client relationships. This role is designed for someone who wants to build deep expertise in energy markets, derivative strategies, and trading support while working alongside experienced traders and sales professionals.

As an Energy Trader Analyst on the Asia Energy Trading Desk, you will help senior traders capture client flow opportunities, support hedging activity, and contribute market insights that guide trading ideas. The position also involves managing risk, assisting with analytics, and helping the desk operate smoothly across the APAC region.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior traders in pricing energy trades accurately and in a competitive way.
• Help hedge positions efficiently so the desk can improve franchise revenue.
• Work with sales teams to connect with clients and share market intelligence.
• Generate trade ideas using both fundamental and technical analysis of energy markets.
• Assist with risk oversight for trading books, including non-linear exposures.
• Size and manage positions in line with profitable trading approaches.
• Handle routine desk tasks such as marking forward curves and preparing market updates.
• Hedge related secondary-book exposures, including FX and interest-rate risks.
• Contribute to analytics focused on energy fundamentals across the energy complex.
• Follow controls and compliance requirements with discipline.
• Collaborate effectively in a diverse, international team environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in commodities trading or analytics.
• Good grasp of energy market fundamentals.
• Ability to understand and evaluate trading risk and market-event impacts.
• Comfort working in a competitive, client-driven setting.
• Strong maturity and the ability to perform in a fast-moving environment.
• Clear discipline around controls and compliance.
• Capability to work under pressure and interact at a senior level when needed.
• Solid programming or computational ability in Python, SQL, or similar languages.
• Strong teamwork skills in an international, multicultural workplace.
