Electrical Design Engineer

Role overview

An established EPC-focused multinational is looking for a Lead Design Engineer in Electrical engineering to handle concept, FEED, and detailed design work for large renewable energy distribution projects. This position is based in Chennai and involves working on large-scale solar and wind systems.

Compensation and location

• Work location: Chennai
• Pay: Up to 16 LPA
• Experience required: 8 to 12+ years
• Primary tools: ETAP, PvSyst, AutoCAD, and Dialux

What the role involves

• Carry out sizing studies for major electrical equipment such as transformers, generators, cables, AC systems, UPS units, and capacitor banks.
• Develop detailed electrical design deliverables including single-line diagrams, bill of quantities, switchyard drawings, and gantry layouts for PSS and GSS interfaces.
• Support commercial and technical evaluation through project-first analysis, IRR calculations, and LCOE assessment.
• Ensure design work follows applicable IEC and IS requirements, along with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17020:2012 compliance practices.
• Use ETAP, PvSyst, AutoCAD, and Dialux effectively in day-to-day design execution.
• Take ownership of coordination, decision-making, and leadership responsibilities across the design process.

Required profile

• Degree in B.E. or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong background in sizing electrical equipment, including transformers, cables, and HV/LV panels.
• Good working knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and compliance systems.
• Excellent communication skills, a practical approach to risk reduction, and the ability to lead teams.
