Role overview
This is a permanent Early Help Family Practitioner position with a starting salary of £43,308 per year, increasing in annual steps to £45,852, inclusive of London Weighting. The role is based in Lambeth and follows a hybrid working arrangement.
About Lambeth
Lambeth is a large and lively South London borough with a population of more than 317,600 people. Spanning from Streatham in the south to Waterloo in the north, it is the ninth largest borough in London. The area is known for its diversity, with over 130 languages spoken, and includes the Windrush generation, London’s largest LGBTQ+ community, and a strong Portuguese-speaking community. Lambeth Council has ambitious plans for the borough through its Lambeth 2030 vision, alongside celebrated schools, parks, cultural institutions, and major landmarks.
About the team
The Early Help service works with families to address challenges early and support better long-term outcomes. Support may begin before birth, continue through early childhood, and extend into the teenage years. The team works closely with Children’s Social Care, community partners, and other agencies. It values learning from feedback, continuously improving practice, and developing practitioners through training, reflection, and curiosity.
What the role involves
In this position, you will manage your own caseload, complete family visits, carry out assessments, create support plans, and review progress on a regular basis. The role requires whole-family practice, with attention to the child’s voice as well as the wider family system. You will work in partnership with key agencies, act as lead professional for the families in your caseload, and make sure support is meaningful, focused, and responsive to need. A key part of the post is recognising and escalating risk appropriately, with particular emphasis on families where domestic abuse has been identified at an early stage. Other family groups may also be supported depending on service priorities.
How to apply
To be shortlisted for interview, your CV and supporting statement must clearly show how you meet the criteria marked “A” in the personal specification. Applications are reviewed anonymously, so all personal details should be removed before upload.
Recruitment checks
Successful candidates must obtain an enhanced DBS certificate. A Cifas check is also required.
Contact for informal discussion
For an informal conversation about the post, contact Mel Goode, Early Help Service Manager, or Suki Rathor, Locality Manager.
