Role overview

We are hiring a Director for a leading civil contractor in Ireland. This senior position is based in Dublin and follows a hybrid working pattern. The role is centred on the water sector and involves close partnership with the senior leadership team. It is a strategic appointment with limited day-to-day project management, with the main focus on guiding the commercial direction of the business.

Responsibilities

• Set the strategic direction of the business and provide leadership that supports growth plans, company objectives, and long-term vision.
• Oversee the delivery of civil engineering work, making sure safety, quality, programme, and budget targets are consistently achieved.
• Develop business opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and secure new work and contract awards.
• Take responsibility for the commercial and financial health of the business, including margins, budgets, forecasting, and risk control.
• Promote a strong culture around health, safety, environment, and quality while ensuring compliance with all legal and contractual obligations.
• Lead, support, and inspire senior managers and operational teams to maintain a high-performing and collaborative workplace.
• Act as a senior representative for the company with clients, stakeholders, regulators, and industry partners to strengthen reputation and market standing.

Requirements

• You should bring at least 20 years of experience in the industry.
• A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field is required.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or an equivalent professional qualification is expected.
• You need substantial senior leadership experience in a civil engineering contracting environment.
• A proven background in delivering large infrastructure or civil engineering projects is essential.
• Strong commercial and financial management capabilities are necessary.
• You should have a solid understanding of construction contracts and procurement approaches.
• Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication abilities are required.
