Role overview
An employer in Wimborne, Dorset is seeking Diagnostic ATE Test Engineers to join the manufacturing team on site. The position focuses on testing specialist wiring assemblies and a variety of analogue and digital products using automatic test equipment, along with checking products and supporting documents against agreed definitions.
What you will do
- Carry out testing of electronic and electro-mechanical products, including low voltage, 110V, 230V, 440V and E.H.T. equipment, by following the relevant test instructions or specifications and using the required bench or ATE test setups.
- Track down faults in equipment down to component level.
- Fix identified issues or trigger corrective action when needed, while keeping accurate fault records.
- Identify problems with test equipment and repair them where allowed, or escalate for maintenance support.
- Keep the work area tidy, maintain strong housekeeping standards, and work in line with safety rules and applicable codes of practice.
- Complete all hard-copy, digital and ERP records carefully so product traceability is maintained.
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities, including 6S and lean manufacturing practices.
What the role requires
- Proven background in production testing with both commercial and custom analogue test equipment.
- Hands-on experience with Teradyne ATE platforms, with Teradyne SP9000 being a plus.
- Confidence in reading and applying manufacturing documents such as drawings, bills of materials, wiring schedules and test specifications.
- Ability to fault-find to component level and work from circuit diagrams and wiring information with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills, with the flexibility to manage multiple tasks at once.
- Familiarity with ESD controls and IPC-A-610/620 standards.
- Ability to lift and move test equipment and products, and willingness to occasionally work extended hours.
Preferred background
- HNC or ONC in Electronics, or an equivalent technical qualification.
- IPC-A-610/620 qualification.
- Experience in electrical assembly, precision cable preparation and soldering.
